Introduction

WT99P461-S1 is a high-performance multimedia development board from Shenzhen Wireless-tag Co., Ltd. It combines Espressif's ESP32-P4 chip (a dual-core RISC-V processor running at 400MHz) with an ESP32-C61 wireless chip on the WT01P461-S1 core board. With a comprehensive set of interfaces and multimedia processing capabilities, the board supports applications such as smart home control, industrial HMI, medical equipment, security monitoring, and multimedia terminals. Its performance, wireless connectivity, and integration make it suitable for rapid prototyping of IPC, AIoT, and similar products.

🔧 Core Hardware Configuration

  • Main Chips: The board uses Espressif's ESP32-P4 + ESP32-C61 dual-chip architecture. The ESP32-P4 features a dual-core RISC-V 400MHz processor and 32MB PSRAM for multimedia processing and edge computing. The ESP32-C61 provides 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.0 LE (with Bluetooth Mesh 1.1 support), enabling low-latency wireless connections with support for many concurrent devices.

  • Network Interface: An integrated RJ45 Ethernet port supports 10/100Mbps auto-negotiation for direct wired networking. Together with the ESP32-C61's Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, it enables coordinated wired and wireless networking for redundancy and reliable data transmission in industrial applications.

  • Multi-protocol Data Channels: The board supports seven communication interfaces: serial (UART), Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 OTG, RS-485, and CAN. Developers can use the ESP-IDF SDK to implement data routing and protocol conversion between these interfaces, such as UART ↔ Ethernet passthrough, for custom industrial control applications.

🛠️ Design Features

  1. The RS-485 interface (J13) connects to an RS-485 PHY chip and complies with the TIA/EIA-485 standard for industrial communication.
  2. The onboard RJ45 Ethernet port (J12) supports 10/100Mbps auto-negotiation for Ethernet communication.
  3. The CAN bus interface (J17) connects to a CAN PHY chip for industrial and automotive bus communication.
  4. The full-speed USB 2.0 Type-C port (J3) connects to the ESP32-P4's USB 2.0 OTG Full-Speed interface. It can be used for development with ESP-IDF and can also supply power to the board.
  5. The high-speed USB 2.0 Type-A port (J4) connects to the ESP32-P4's USB 2.0 OTG High-Speed interface. The ESP32-P4 can act as a USB Host to connect to and power other USB Device peripherals.
  6. The RGB LED (D41, connected to the core board through GPIO54) can be used for custom status indications.
  7. The MicroSD card slot (J11) supports 4-bit mode for storing or playing audio files on a MicroSD card.
  8. The MIPI CSI FPC connector (J15, 1.0mm pitch, 15 pins) connects to an external camera module for image transfer.
  9. The MIPI DSI FPC connector (J9, 0.5mm pitch, 30 pins) and the CTP connector (J8, 0.5mm pitch, 6 pins) connect to an LCD expansion board.
  10. The onboard microphone (MIC1) and speaker connector (J7, supporting up to 4Ω 3.0W) connect to the onboard audio codec for voice announcements and audio playback.
  11. The C61-PROG flashing interface (J16, 1.25mm pitch, single-row straight 1x7P header) is used to flash the ESP32-C61 chip on the WT01P461-S1 core board.

📡 Main Applications

  • Industrial Control: The RS-485 and CAN interfaces connect to PLCs, sensors, and industrial equipment, while Ethernet and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 6 provide stable and reliable network data transmission.
  • HMI: MIPI-DSI and CTP support an LCD expansion display with capacitive touch for developing local monitoring interfaces using embedded GUI frameworks such as LVGL.
  • Security and Vision Terminals: The MIPI-CSI camera interface supports image capture, while the ESP32-P4's 400MHz RISC-V cores support edge AI inference, such as face recognition.
  • Smart Home Control Systems: The onboard audio codec supports voice announcements and local command recognition. Combined with the HMI, it enables applications such as smart speakers with displays and home energy management controllers.

⚙️ Development Advantages

  • Both the onboard ESP32-P4 and ESP32-C61 can be programmed using Espressif's ESP-IDF SDK.
  • Each chip has a dedicated flashing interface (J16/J1), supporting serial flashing and debugging with ESP-TOOL.
  • All available pins on the core board are brought out to headers, allowing developers to connect peripherals with jumper wires as needed.
  • Official examples covering basic functions are available for learning and reference.
